Pick's Theorem via Minkowski's Theorem

چکیده
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This note was inspired by Brian Davies, who challenged Nick Trefethen at Oxford by pointing out that the evaluation of the integral (7) would cause serious difficulties both analytically and numerically. One of the authors (T.S.) had the pleasure of attending Trefethen’s course in Oxford, where problems like Davies’s had to be solved on a weekly basis. Discussing the integral with Christoph Ortner was helpful, too. T.S. is supported by a Rhodes Scholarship.

On Tychonoff's type theorem via grills
Let ${X_{alpha}:alphainLambda}$ be a collection of topological spaces, and $mathcal {G}_{alpha}$ be a grill on $X_{alpha}$ for each $alphainLambda$. We consider Tychonoffrq{}s type Theorem for $X=prod_{alphainLambda}X_{alpha}$ via the above grills and a natural grill on $X$ related to these grills, and present a simple proof to this theorem. This immediately yields the classical theorem...
متن کاملExistence of Solutions for some Nonlinear Volterra Integral Equations via Petryshyn's Fixed Point Theorem
In this paper, we study the existence of solutions of some nonlinear Volterra integral equations by using the techniques of measures of noncompactness and the Petryshyn's fixed point theorem in Banach space. We also present some examples of the integral equation to confirm the efficiency of our results.
متن کاملOn intermediate value theorem in ordered Banach spaces for noncompact and discontinuous mappings
In this paper, a vector version of the intermediate value theorem is established. The main theorem of this article can be considered as an improvement of the main results have been appeared in [textit{On fixed point theorems for monotone increasing vector valued mappings via scalarizing}, Positivity, 19 (2) (2015) 333-340] with containing the uniqueness, convergent of each iteration to the fixe...
متن کاملA formal proof of Pick's Theorem
We start by establishing the result for an elementary triangle: one whose vertices are lattice points and which contains no other lattice points either in its interior or boundary. Pick’s theorem for such a triangle simply asserts that it has area 1/2, or 0 in the degenerate cases where it is flat. Given two vectors A and B, we can consider them as defining the linear transformation of the plan...
متن کاملFaster integer multiplication using short lattice vectors
We prove that $n$-bit integers may be multiplied in $O(n \log n \, 4^{\log^* n})$ bit operations. This complexity bound had been achieved previously by several authors, assuming various unproved number-theoretic hypotheses. Our proof is unconditional, and depends in an essential way on Minkowski's theorem concerning lattice vectors in symmetric convex sets.
